I like the first version of Dante, the second version of Virgil, and… well, Beatrice’s fourth version sucked. I HATED the third one.. If theyd picked either 1st or 2nd one, I would’ve been perfectly fine with it. But Lucifer was awesome in all of them (but all in all the fourth fifth and sixth versions sucked ass XP ) oh and the part where Dante saved Beatrice, the lip flapping and the dialogue was TOTALLY off >.>
All in all, it was pretty cool ^_^

i loved how in each circle they would change the art stile. loved it in halo: legends and i love it here. like the thitle says this is an animated epic.
even if you have never read the story you should know SOMETHING about it… i cant belive the ammount of posts here that evidently had no clue this is an epic old story.

This movie sure makes you think about your live and how you should avoid the wrong things. It really made me think about some of the things that i really shouldn’t have done.
But if you think hell + heaven is real or not that’s you OK.
But I’m just sayin its better to have a clean slate before you cash in.

It was kind of a BIGG letdown… I had huge hopes for this vid. (I’ve got the Death Edition for the Xbox 360)
Yes the story came forth in the video, but it was poorly shown, and My thoughts are that they rather should have followed the game a bit more (in core of words and what/how it happened).
Uhmm. The games awesome, I recommend all that have watched and like the video to buy it. The game IS and will 4 ever be one of my favorites. The game keeps you going through the whole game (First time I played I kept playing in about 6hours straight, Like WOOOOW. No game’s been able to keep me that interested (I Play a lot of games))…
But as I was saying, the video is a letdown… (That’s me as a critic).

One of the most awsome hell based movies i’ve seen so far. But is it me or did Dante, Spirit guy and Lucifer keep on changing forms? What was the purpose of that?.
I think it’s because it was a collab effort between lots of studios, so they did each circle in a different style.

It had a great plot great movie but the diffrent animation was kinda stupid. I saw what they where trying to do but it got me confused and it just didnt seem nesisary. But all in all it was AWESOME!!!!!:)
absolutely awesome great story telling and i would love to meet the 6 Directors who told the story through the 6 terrifying visions of Hell making this one hell of a heart-stopping epic adventure!

Having played the game I can say that this makes a lot more sense.
… it wouldnt be much of a game if you just walked around writing poetry… im glad “this wasn’t like the damn epic, TDC” its not that impressive that some of you had a decent softmore english teacher, people that complain about this are the reason that god doesn’t talk to people anymore…
This was a great animation of the video game Dante’s Inferno. I do not know much about the book besides that, it was interesting on how the animation changed form floor to floor (chapter to chapter). I really enjoyed this and will tell anyone to just give this a shot. You may like it or hate it but that is your two cents. :]
I don’t think hardly anyone has ever read the book. It’s really really old. Like Renaisscance Era old. I know a few fun acts about t, but that’s about it.

wow,..i haven’t even finished the Dante’s Inferno Book, but i guess you’d have to have read the book to not be as blind as some of the previous commenters below- to know, that ‘adaptation’ was so far off from the book, that it was almost a spit in the face if not a complete insult to the book. im sorry, but that animation was a ‘joke’
I don’t believe anybody of the general public would find such an incredibly philisophical and thoughtful work as the Divine Comedy a light read, much less a light “watch”.
It started with a hack-slash-y game, and it continued as this. I don’t see the point in complaining now.
In any case, the Divine Comedy was a thoughtful, poetic hypothesis, possibly even an impression, of the fates of life after death. The “work of art” is in the original Italian, where it is unadulterated in its poetic form. Ergo, even the translations are, as you say, “a spit in the face[,] if not a complete insult[,] to the book”.
I hardly believe “[The] animation is a joke], because I was able to be entertained by it. I have read Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradice, so kiss off. They never claimed it was a full-blown adaptation, and I am satisfied with that. Film Roman and the other animation groups did what they did best and delivered what they did. If I’d wanted to read Inferno, I’d simply read it; quite honestly, unless the film was nonprofit, a direct adaptation of Inferno would have been that “[spit] in the face… of the book] for me.

I must agree with Harlequin de Rustre in a lot of way, the Divine Comedy is a poetic adventure to self realization and an insight to what may lie beyond death itself. great book!!!!
just to inform others, aka those who have not read the actual Divine Comedy, Dante didn’t fight his way through hell. he was guided by a greek poet whom he looked up to and pretty much worshipped. In fact dante could have never fought his way through becuase he was such a chicken that he pretty much fainted at every level of hell. by itself the movie is decent at best. *sigh* if someone is going off a book they should at least keep the story MOSTLY straight.

Dantes Inferno does exist! its the first part to the book a Divine Comedy. Then comes pergatory and finaly Heaven. Iv read dantes inferno, but not the other two parts.

The Anime here is based off the game.
The Game was based off the book.
The author was also named Dante, but he was not a Crusader. He was just another poet. I haven’t read the book but I have heard of its concepts. Virgil was a Greek (or was he Roman? IDK) poet who came to Dante in a dream to show him the realm of Hades, AKA Hell.
FUN FACT: There’s a reason that the lowest circle is for traitors. It has actually little to do with Satan’s betrayal to God. But before this book was published, three of Dante’s peers made false accusations and beared false witness against him in the trial. Dante felt betrayed, and so he actually made Treachery the deadliest sin because of them. He even mentions them by name in his book.
I loved this, great artwork all throughout but my fav was the 2nd or 3rd. pre-ordered the game but snow slowed the delivery.
Also, Mark Hamill can do know wrong and is the best voice actor EVER!!!

Wow, this was certainly different form most other animes i have viewed. I like all the different animations as he progressed deeper in to Hell, kinda showed how there are so many different views on Hell itself, Very well done. I’ve read Dante’s Inferno, and can say without a doubt I was more enthralled with this haha. This definitely would steer anyone to try to live a good life, that suffering and torture was really well shown, time to start living the straight and narrow… or try to, I think you get points for trying and succeeding now and again lol. All in all, a very good animated and graphic movie in my opinion :-)

I guess I would understand the animation changes and the movie more if I played the game but, still.

movie sucked. i just wasted 88 minutes of my school free day for nothing and for some stupid reason the animation style changed through the capters wat sort of idiot would think that was good.
How about 343 Studios? Halo Legends? They did the same thing. Only for them it wasn’t multiple chapters, each episode was writen and animated in a different Anime Studio.
The purpose of this for Halo was to find a good studio and extend a contract to them. Of course this is just rumor, but supposedly, 343 Studios will award the studio that put forth their best episode with a contract for a full ongoing anime. Like each episode was a kind of resume.
However this was a stand alone movie, so I can see your frustration. I first noticed it when Virgil kept changing. I didn’t notice Dante change until he went from long hair to short hair. But perhaps they have a similar motive? Perhaps this was a test of many studios as well; for something even bigger than just one film.
I agree with you that this should not have had multiple styles and should have been more consistant because it was only one stand-alone film. But the idea of an anime being done by multiple artists isn’t completely evil, it has its purposes.

Since you only bothered to mention the animation change as your reason to dislike this movie, it seems you’re a bit to vain. If you ever want to enjoy more than just the fights in whatever you watch I suggest you become more empathetic.
If you empathize with the characters you’ll understand and even feel the same emotion that they are going through.
Seems like you’ve already closed your mind though, what a waste.

Very interesting to see the different styles of animation and a different portrayal of Dante’s trilogy in the vision of the modern world and the medieval world through the tribulations of Hell and redemption.
Epic indeed. Reminds me of Halo Legends how each chapter seemed drawn by a different artist.
